Pastor Steve Wood

The Rev. Steve Wood and his wife of thirty-one years, LeAnne have four children. Their family resides in North Metro Atlanta and they enjoy water sports, golf, gardening, snow skiing, baseball, basketball, fishing and bike-riding.

After receiving God’s call into the ordained ministry, Steve enrolled in Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky in September 1983. While there, he served as a chaplain at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington and later as the Youth Pastor of the First UMC of Georgetown, KY.

He received the Master of Divinity degree graduating in May 1986. Five days later, he was appointed as the pastor-in-charge of the Red Oak United Methodist Church (UMC) in College Park, GA where he served for 3 years. Under his leadership, the Red Oak UMC became a multi-racial congregation and was recognized as the Conference Small Membership Church of the Year in 1989.

In June 1989, he was appointed to plant a new church in Douglas County, which is now the New Covenant UMC. Starting with just 16 people, the church grew to over 600 members in just seven years. In addition, the congregation built a multipurpose facility and added an activity center complete with a gymnasium. The church was recognized as the fastest growing congregation in the Southeastern Jurisdiction in 1991.

Steve was appointed to the Sugar Hill UMC in Gwinnett County on January 1, 1997, as the Senior Pastor where he served for 10 years. Under his leadership, membership more than doubled, eventually surpassing 2000. Sugar Hill UMC was distinguished by one of the highest worship attendance/membership ratios in all of Methodism at 70%, with the majority of new members joining by profession of faith in Christ, rather than transfer from other churches.

In June 2007, Steve was appointed to Mount Pisgah UMC in Johns Creek, GA, one of the largest churches by membership in the entire denomination where he currently serves as Lead Pastor. Mount Pisgah UMC has become one of the premier teaching centers of multi-generational, multi-ethnic models of worship, discipling and shared leadership. Mount Pisgah hosted the nationwide Large Church Initiative in April 2014 with Mark Batterson, Laura Story, Chip Ingram and others for training in the multi-generation, multi-ethnic models of ministry.

In addition to his pastoral role, Steve serves on the boards of Mount Pisgah Christian School, the Summit Counseling Center, the Champions Place Foundation, The Confessing Movement, the General Council on Finance and Administration of the worldwide UMC, and was one of 14 clergy delegates elected to the world gathering of the General Conference of the United Methodist Church representing the North Georgia Conference in 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Steve served for 7 years as the Community Spiritual Director for the Northwest Georgia Walk to Emmaus movement. Overseas, Steve has preached in and led mission trips to Israel, India, Kenya, Jordan, Haiti, Brazil, Nigeria, Costa Rica, South Africa, Venezuela, St. Lucia, Mexico and Cambodia. In 1994, Steve was chosen as the launching Community Spiritual Director for the Tres Dias movement in Moscow, Russia. He has a passion for making disciples of Jesus Christ and growing and cultivating Christian leaders for global impact through a life on life teaching method

Steve was born and raised in Sandy Springs, Georgia in Fulton County. He attended Sandy Springs High School and graduated from Ridgeview High School in 1976. Steve is an alumnus of the University of Georgia having graduated in 1980 with a BBA in Finance. He then began a career in the office products industry before answering a call into ministry in September of 1983. He received the Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1986 and was ordained a Deacon in the North Georgia UMC Conference in 1985 and ordained an Elder in 1988.

Helen was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Helen is married to Darrell Caudill, a physician and they have two adult children as well as three adult stepsons and five grandchildren.

Helen graduated from the University of Georgia in 1979 with BA in Finance and is a member of NACBA.

She enjoys reading, cooking, decorating and walking with friends. She has been with the church since 1998.

Pastor Mark Danzey

Disciple Life


Pastor Mark is native of Miami, Florida but has lived in North Georgia all of his adult life. He and Tammy have been married since 2003 and have four grown children. He has held a pastoral position in four different United Methodist Churches since 1993, is an ordained Deacon, and has been on staff at Mount Pisgah. since 2006. Mark has a Masters in pastoral ministries from Erskine Theological Seminary, holds certification as a pastoral sexual addiction and trauma professional, is a registered Domestic/Divorce mediator and is a certified professional life coach.

In his spare time, Mark enjoys Golf, cycling to work, wood-working, and discipling others. In the fall he is pulling for the Georgia Bulldogs and the Miami Dolphins.

Pastor Jorge Henao

Hispanic Ministry


Pastor Jorge has been with Mount Pisgah since 2013. He holds a Bachelors degree in Economics, and a Minor in Business administration along with a Bachelors in Theology. He is currently working toward a Master Divinitiy.

Jorge was born in Colombia and is happily married with two children from a previous marriage. He loves to take crusies, his favorite expression is prospering in victory and he has a passion for preaching the Word of God. He also enjoys reading, talking to people about God, listening to sermons from his favorite preachers and listening to songs of praise and worship. Jorge’s favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

Pedro Silva



Pedro’s ministry includes Global Missions along with the integration and spiritual guidance of multi-ethnic groups within the church. He graduated from Candler School of Theology and takes on his new role July 1, 2016.

Pedro spent 13 years in the world of advertising before moving to the US from Brazil. He has been a valued member of the Communications & Marketing Ministry for almost two years and is now answering God’s call to ministry as he works with the multicultural community.

Pedro is married to Flavia and they have two sons, Davi and Lucas. The family is very active members of the Church.

Pedro enjoys spending time with family, watching his sons play soccer and football, cooking, playing the guitar, and mixed martial arts.

Steve Smith

Worship Arts


Music and faith have been two major influences in Steve’s life. Growing up, he spent many hours listening to his mother play the piano and to his father’s teaching as a pastor in their home church. These passions have been combined when Steve answered God’s call to ministry as a Worship Pastor.

“If I could thank God for one thing in my life (other than my wife and daughters) it would be the opportunity to lead people in worship and to write songs that help us all take one step closer to our Maker’s Heart.” 

It is Steve’s prayer that you are able to draw close to God through worship as our Father so graciously awaits to run and meet you.

Steve attended Palm Beach Atlantic as a Vocal Performance Major, and Compton Performance Institute and holds a degree in Vocal Pedagogy.  He also holds a degree in Worship Studies from the Institute for Worship Studies and is currently working on his Masters Training in Speech Level Singing.

Steve is a former recording artist with “Word Records” in Nashville, TN. He is a songwriter for LifeWay Worship and is a voting member of NARS “The Grammy Awards.” During his career, Steve has had the opportunity to tour with artists like Mark Lowry, Wayne Watson, and Kathy Troccoli.

Steve and his wife, Holly have two daughters and live in the Atlanta metro area.


Trey Arnette

Trey and his family joined Mount Pisgah UMC in 2009. He is the Head of the Middle School, Director of Admissions, and Men’s Varsity Soccer Coach at Mount Pisgah Christian School.  He has served MPCS as teaching Bible and Honors Economics, as well as the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement.

Trey holds a degree in Economics from the University of Georgia and is currently working towards a Masters of Theological Studies at Candler, Emory. Trey and his wife Leslie have been married for over fourteen years and have five children.

Jenny Bramel
Parent Edition Coordinator

Jenny holds a MS in Social Work and a career that has led her to the Housing Projects in the City of Chicago, the Illinois State Senate and the Cook County Jail to Children and student ministry here at Mount Pisgah.  She credits her most humbling and relevant on-the-job training for her present position as her stint as the mother of two teenagers and wife of an unpredictable husband all of whom keep her on her toes!

When she finds  a free moment, Jenny enjoys walking in the woods, drawing and painting, music,  working with her wonderful small groups and has a slight, but healthy, obsession with parenting books.

Christen Clark
Children’s Large Group Director

Christen holds a Music Education degree from Liberty University and has worked in children’s ministry for over a decade.

Christen grew up in North Carolina with a family that was actively involved in their church. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was five years old and later began serving in her church youth group while in high school. Christen spent summers working at a Christian camp in the mountains of North Carolina. While attending Liberty University, Christen was a part of a traveling youth ministry team.

Christen moved to Atlanta in 2004 to work at First Baptist Church Atlanta, where she served for over seven years. She is married to Richard they have two children and a puppy. She can often be found baking, painting, reading, singing and playing with toddlers.

Lori Courtney
Worship Arts Production Associate

Lori has been with the church for at least six years. She has performed – singing and dancing – professionally for nearly ten years both nationally and internationally. She holds a BA in Musical Theater with Dance emphasis from Catawba College in North Carolina.

When she isn’t working at her awesome job, Lori loves spending time with family and playing golf.

Valorie Deel
Pastor of Caring

Valorie has been with Mount Pisgah since 1992 and attended the Billy Graham School of Evangelism, has completed both Stephen Ministry Training and Stephen Leader Training.

Valorie was born in Jacksonville, Florida and is thankful for growing up in a home with her parents and sister. She has lived in Atlanta since 1980 and has a deep relationship with God.

Valorie and her husband Larry have been married since August 1991. They are blessed with a blended family that includes two grown children and a grandson. She absolutely LOVES Jesus and LOVES people. She enjoys “down time” with her husband on Saturdays and time with family. She believes God can make coffee as conversation starters! Sharing cups of coffee and conversation with people are gifts of her days.

Peter Desio

Peter Desio is the Event Technician with Technical Ministries.

He has worked in corporate AV at the Omni hotel in Atlanta, and has been part time with Technical Ministries for the past two years. He became involved with technical ministries at Mount Bethel UMC when he was 11 years old.

In his spare time, Peter likes to tinker with electronics, cook, and music.

Rita Felice

Rita Felice has been a part of the Mount Pisgah UMC staff for over 11 years and is currently the Children’s Ministry Director.

Rita has been involved with children’s programming since 2000 and previously taught at Mount Pisgah Christian School. She holds a BA degree in English from New York University.

She has been happily married to Marc Felice for 29 years and they have two children. Rita enjoys spending time with family, cooking, armchair traveling, loving and serving friends and the community through meals and quality time.

Daniel Findlay
Student Pastor

Daniel comes to Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church with years of youth ministry experience in various church and para-church settings. He has a unique ability to connect with students and an incredible way of relating scripture to life in meaningful ways when he speaks.
Daniel focuses a large amount of his time on contact work in our local middle and high schools bringing a creative spirit that will help our ministry continue to innovate how we minister to the youth in our community.
Before joining Mount Pisgah, Daniel has served as a counselor at Agape Family Center in Atlanta; and was a Chaplain at Archer High School in Gwinnett; and led high school and young adult ministry at Destiny Metropolitan Worship Church.
Daniel has been married to Cara-Marie for two years. They met in church in Boynton Beach, Florida. He enjoys basketball, cooking, eating, writing, and rescuing stranded drivers from the road.

Beth Giddes  has been a member of the church staff since 2004.

Abby Harmon
StudentLife Worship Pastor

Abby Harmon brings with her loads of energy and a passion for engaging students in worship. Aside from her duties as a worship leader, she also has a role in pastoring our female students alongside Tammy Smith.

Abby’s joins Mount Pisgah UMC from Fellowship Bible Church where she was the Worship and Communications Intern. While in the program, Abby was a big part of their adult and student worship environments. She graduated in 2015 from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Science in Media Communications and a Leadership Minor.

Abby loves hiking, volleyball and her husband Will.

Diane Jager
Director of Nursery,
Wee Worship

Diane Jager has been on staff with Mount Pisgah UMC since 1988 and has over 27 years of experience in preschool & nursery ministry. Diane is a long-time member of Mount Pisgah and enjoys her work. She grew up in Ohio and is happiest when spending time with her family. She’s more a Braves fan than a Red’s fan and enjoys sewing and crocheting.

Kyle Johnson

Kyle holds an Associate of Science Degree in Recording Arts from Full Sail University in Florida, has had a successful career in audio and visual arts, and has previously served at First Baptist Alpharetta as the Technical Director.

Kyle enjoys spending time with his wife and 14 month old son, Ana and Luke.

Beth Laury

Disciple Life

Beth Laury began attending Mount Pisgah UMC in 2003 and experienced God’s love. She was discipled by a caring member of our congregation. Later, Beth developed a love and passion to disciple other women. She has been discipling women in small groups and one on one since 2007. Investing in the spiritual growth of others and developing our discipleship program has allowed Beth to become blessing in many lives.

Beth loves music, reading and cooking. She and her husband, Michael, have two daughters.

Jeannie Lewis
Database Manager
Stewardship Coordinator

As a member of the Finance Team, Jeannie oversees the Stewardship functions, including the administration of the annual First Fruits focus and financial reporting and analysis. In addition, she is the system administrator for the church database, which manages the membership, giving, attendance and involvement information of all associated with the Mount Pisgah congregation.

Jeannie is a native of Macon, Georgia and graduated from Wesleyan College with a degree in Business Administration and Music. She and husband, Sam, have two grown daughters. Sam holds the position of Business Administrator at Johns Creek UMC. They are members at Roswell UMC.

Before joining Mount Pisgah Jeannie held positions at Bell South as Data Center manager and Computer Programmer. She was on staff at Roswell UMC for over 15 years where she worked in the Music Ministry overseeing the Sounds of the Spirit Concert Series. During those years, she also served as Administrative Director of The Michael O’Neal Singers. From 2005-2008, Jeannie was the Church Administrator at Bethel UMC in Charleston, SC. She has worked at Mount Pisgah since 2008, becoming a certified F1 (CMS) Champion.

During her personal time Jeannie enjoys being a grandmother, reading and watching PGA golf. She and husband Sam sing in the choir at Roswell UMC.

Sam Lewis
Facilities Director

Sam retired from BellSouth after 33 years. He has spent the last four years as the Church Administrator for Peachtree City United Methodist Church, and Johns Creek United Methodist Church.

Sam is married to Jeannie Lewis, and the proud father of three and grandfather to five grandchildren.

He is a member of Roswell United Methodist Church. He enjoys golf, cooking, and singing.

Mickey Lyons

Mickey has been with Mount Pisgah UMC for almost twelve years. He graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Film.

Mickey is married and has two children. He enjoys spending time with family and motorcycles.

Karen, her husband Evan and son Dawson have been active Mount Pisgah members for over ten years.

Karen graduated from the University of Florida in 1988. After a 15-year career in advertising and yearsas an at-home mom and antique/art market owner, Karen accepted the call to ministry at Mount Pisgahin 2013. She serves as administrative support to Pastor Mark Danzey & Beth Laury in the FamilyLife &DiscipleLife ministries. 

Tammy Smith

Tammy has been a part of the Mount Pisgah staff since 2010. She earned her BA in Religion from Berry College and her MA in Christian Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary.

Tammy and her husband Daniel were married in May 2015.

Erick Stallings

Erick has been a Worship Associate with Mount Pisgah since January 2014. He has served in music ministries for the majority of his life and has worked with instrumental ensembles, choirs, and praise bands.

Erick hails from Tennessee and holds degrees from Tennessee Technological University, the University of Florida and Nova Southeastern University. He’s also a full-time band director at Mill Creek Middle School in Woodstock, Georgia where nearly 350 students participate in the band program. His passion for music and worship is about helping people to connect through music while fully developing their talents for God. Erick and his wife Erin married in 2013 and welcomed their first child into their lives in the fall of 2014.

Lea Taylor

Lea is married to Rick and they have two children.

She volunteers with the Children’s Ministry, has been in the Mount Pisgah Christian School half-day preschool and was a Spelling teacher with MPCS.

Lea has been an active community volunteer since the City of Johns Creek was incorporated. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Johns Creek Arts Center, The Johns Creek Community Association, Johns Creek Beautification and The Friends of Ocee Library. She currently serves on the City of Johns Creek Board of Zoning Appeals. The Taylors reside in Johns Creek.

Stephen Taylor

Needs Ministry

Stephen has been with Mount Pisgah since May 2015. He is a graduate of Candler School of Theology and holds a MA in Divinity and also a BBA from Kennesaw State University.  Stephen’s passion for disability community is personal because of his own experience in dealing with a lifelong disability of being hearing impaired.

Stephen has two children, one dog, and two cats.  He loves Star Wars and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves.

Darlene Walls

Alan White
Lead Student

Alan has been in ministry to 6th-12th grade students for fourteen years. After a year-long internship his senior year of high school, Alan became the Assistant Youth Pastor at Cleveland First UMC. He attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee on a soccer scholarship and graduated with a degree in Math Education in 2005.

Alan and his college sweetheart Carrie worked at Camp Glisson for four years during their summers in college. They were married in 2005 and have two sons. The couple moved to Acworth, Georgia where Alan was the youth pastor until February of 2009 when he joined our staff.

Lori Womble
Senior Graphic Designer

Lori is an accomplished designer and creative director who has over twenty years of experience with companies like Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and her own firm, Redclay Creative.

She is a Board Member of Spruill Center for the Arts, an active member of Dunwoody UMC and is passionate about ministering to the homeless. Lori is also the mother of two beautiful teenage girls, enjoys discovering eclectic coffee shops, eating sushi, home renovation, and turning trash into treasure.

Jason Zemke

Jason and his wife Kay were married in Roswell, Georigia in 1998 and they have one daughter, two rescued dogs and a rescued cat. Jason has lived in the Alpharetta area since graduating from Michigan State University in May 1994 with a degree is in environmental sciences. He is currently a seminary student at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY.

Jason enjoys jogging, working in the yard and time with family.

Katie Garrison
DiscipleLife Coordinator

Katie is a lifelong Mount Pisgah member.  Witnessing the growth of Mount Pisgah UMC first hand, as a young child and teen, and then as an adult with her own family; Mount Pisgah has truly shaped her into the woman she is today. Katie holds a Bachelors of Social Work and has worked in Foster Care and Adoptions Case Management, Home Study Writing, and Foster Care Advocacy.  She and her husband Graham are the proud parents of three children, adopting their youngest child through foster care.  Katie is the founder and Advocate Leader of Pisgah Fosters. Katie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading and good movies.
