Titan Wheelchair Sports

The Titan Wheelchair Sports program, sponsored by Mount Pisgah, primarily serves physically challenged young adults who have aged out of high school and who no longer have the opportunity to participate in youth athletic and social programs. With this said, not wanting to exclude anyone in providing a program that is of great benefit for those who participate, a number of participants are in high school.

Participants have physical challenges resulting from conditions such as Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy and Muscular Dystrophy. Some have mild cognitive challenges in addition to their physical special needs. This program at this time is provided at no cost to each participate.

As young adults, the Titans collectively decide what types of events to include in the program, and several Titans fill key leadership roles in the program such as Communication Director and Event Director, providing them the opportunity to develop leadership skills. The program focuses on three primary areas.

1. Athletics:
   
Informal scrimmages are held 2 times a month, typically on Saturdays from 3:15pm to 5:15pm at Mount Pisgah Christian School in Johns Creek.
   • Participants do not have to own their own sports chairs - program chairs are provided to share.
   • No prior wheelchair sports experience is required - Titan peers who will mentor new players.
2. Social Events:

   After most Saturday scrimmages, participants go out as a group to a local restaurant. Other events occur at least once per month.  Past events have included game nights, outdoor movie nights, the Blue Angels air show, Christmas parties and events highlighting important events in our participants’ lives (graduations, birthdays, etc).
3. Service Projects:
   The Titans are passionate about serving others. One service project is planned per quarter. Recently they participated in a 5K walk/roll, “Walk for Water” to fund water treatment systems for third world countries.

A key element of the program is to provide members of the Titan Family the opportunity to grow their faith in Jesus Christ. Inclusion is fundamental to our program - to be welcoming to all who are interested.
